NorCAL ZERO Project: Hydrogen at the Ports

In May 2024, Hyundai launched the NorCAL ZERO Project in California, marking a major milestone in hydrogen-powered freight transportation.

Key Highlights

30 XCIENT Fuel Cell Trucks: Hyundai deployed 30 heavy-duty hydrogen fuel cell trucks to the Ports of Oakland and Richmond, making it the largest commercial deployment of such trucks in North America.

Environmental Impact: These trucks are expected to reduce carbon emissions by over 24,000 metric tons—equivalent to planting millions of trees.

Operational Goals: The project aims to demonstrate the viability of hydrogen-powered freight transportation for heavy-duty logistics, providing a model for other industries to follow.

Clean Logistics in Georgia: Hydrogen in Action

Hyundai’s hydrogen ambitions extend beyond the West Coast. In December 2024, the company deployed 21 XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks for logistics operations at the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) in Georgia.

Project Highlights:

Decarbonizing Supply Chains: These trucks transport materials and goods to and from Hyundai’s production facilities, reducing emissions within its supply chain.
